A Great Lesson on Composition Skills
Today’s lesson was a truly exciting one, as we had the opportunity to further improve our composition skills in media production. As part of the lesson, we were tasked with creating a short video that incorporated key composition elements commonly used in various media texts. This hands-on experience allowed us to experiment with different techniques and explore how powerful these elements can be in enhancing a visual story.
In the video, we focused on integrating several important composition components, such as points, shapes, and lines. These elements helped guide the viewer's eye and added structure to the visual storytelling. We also paid close attention to color usage, making sure to choose palettes that evoked the right mood and atmosphere for the video. Color, after all, is not just about aesthetic appeal—it plays a crucial role in setting the tone and communicating emotions.
Additionally, we experimented with sound design. Sound, much like visual elements, can make or break a video. The right sound effects and background music can elevate the overall experience, creating a deeper connection with the audience. We carefully selected soundscapes to complement the visuals, and it was amazing to see how much of an impact these auditory elements had on the final product.
Creating this video was a valuable exercise in understanding how the basic elements of composition come together to tell a more engaging and effective story. It was fascinating to see how these techniques, which are used in professional media texts, can be applied in our own projects.
You can watch the video below to see how we applied these principles. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it!
